Week 55 - So Much Fruit!!!

First, a pic from last week - Abymes vs. Lamentin soccer!

Bonjour mes amis!!

This was a great week! Almost every day this week, someone (whether it be a member, a friend, or just a random person on the street) gave us fruit! Mangos, passion fruits, habricots... way too many for us to eat! So last night we tried figuring out how to make our own juice and use up the fruit, and it turned out really good! I wish I'd taken pictures but I'm sure we'll make some more another time :)

Other highlights of the week...

-Teaching our friend Sylvia, from Dominica while it was dumping rain outside and she was holding her adorable little baby son in her arms

-Our friend Junie is wonderful and always seems to work out her own concerns! We share a scripture with her, and each time she applies it to herself and her own questions and problems. I learn a lot from her about likening the scriptures unto myself.

-We taught this really cool guy who has a LOT of knowledge about the Bible and it's always slightly intimidating trying to bring up the Book of Mormon or the restored Gospel to them... BUT he was actually pretty open and accepted to start reading the Book of Mormon! I'm so thankful that we have the Spirit guiding us and comforting us, because I definitely wouldn't know how to navigate lessons like that on my own!

-We started teaching EnglishConnect this week, the really cool new program the Church released. It's really cool, the members are really excited to be involved and learn English, plus it'll be a super powerful missionary tool as we invite EVERYONE to come!

-Our friend Alex had a really powerful experience after reading a talk by President Nelson, which strengthened his testimony of President Nelson being a prophet called of God. We read part of 1 Nephi 8 with him, about tasting of the "fruit" of the love of God and then wanting to share that joy with your family and loved ones. He's kind of like Junie in the sense that he applies scriptures to himself really well too, and he talked about how he really has felt the joy of the Gospel in his life since meeting with us and he has a desire to share that with his family! So we're excited to see how that goes little by little :)
One of the really cool things about Alex too is that he looks at the Book of Mormon from a very fatherly perspective. He is a wonderful dad and really loves his kids, and each time he reads he shares with us how this can help him be a better father to his children. So that's been a really sweet and special thing for us to witness :)

-Found a brand new restaurant by our apartment that has DELICIOUS banane pesée!! I hadn't had a lot of banane pesée since Guyane, so now that I know this place it might be a bit dangerous...

-Saw our friend Debra. I loovvee talking to her! She had had a super hard week at work and was feeling super down. We felt like we should share the scripture in Mosiah about God lifting our burdens, and as we read, I could see tears forming in her eyes and rolling down her cheeks. It is SO wonderful to see the Book of Mormon touch people's hearts and bring them peace. ❤

-Yvelt, one of the people we're teaching in a part-member family, is SO cool and is also feasting on the Book of Mormon!! He read the scripture we shared with him in our lesson over and over and basically had them memorized by the end haha! He's trying to apply it to his own problems too and we're hoping he'll by able to see how it can help him and bring him closer to God.

-Albie (our recent convert)'s dad came to church this Sunday!! It was so so special because 1) it was father's day and it was just so so cute seeing them at church together, and 2) his dad is actually really progressing!! Albie is SUPER excited about us teaching him and we think he might get baptized around next month!!
Albie himself just is amazing and is totally helping us with the missionary work in his whole neighborhood!! We also started teaching his great aunt and talked to lots of his other friends and it's bringing us LOTS of joy 😁

-Father's Day was really wonderful! Got to talk to my dad and reflect a little about how special fathers are. I thought a lot about how Heavenly Father is the perfect role model to look to when it comes to parenting and being a father (or mother in my case haha). I'm so thankful for dads and especially for MY dad, I love you 😊❤

Hope you all had a super wonderful week as well!! I love you all! And happy summer!!! 🌈😎

Gros bisous,

Soeur Gardner
